In maths this week we have started our new unit on place value to 50, first job was to organise the resources into groups of ten. They did a fantastic job and are now using them to make two-digit numbers to 100.

We have been exploring programmable toys in computing and learning how to follow and give a sequence of instructions (algorithms) in order to reach a destination. The week started with a beautiful winter walk with the Owls and Robins, we talked about evergreen and deciduous trees, spotted some beautiful snowdrops and had great fun rolling down the field in the sunshine!
We have been cleaning the home corner for good luck. We have set up a Chinese restaurant. The food is delicious and the service excellent. There are red envelopes with money for gifts. Even the baby is dressed in red for good luck.
What a fantastic lesson investigating shadows and making shadow carousels.
Golden Eagles thoroughly enjoyed lighting fires and creating shelters on Friday, I wonder if the shelters would have withstood storm Malik?! They used the fires to learn how to purify water – these Golden Eagles will be great to have on expeditions!
Our story time book this week has been ‘Five Minute’s Peace’ Here is Mrs Large enjoying reading the paper in her bubble bath!

Today we have been learning about what humans need to survive. We even visited a desert island to realise what we NEEDED rather than what we WANTED. We had a great time and learnt lots too!
