24 Challenge @ Richmond School
A big congratulations to Amelie, Sam, Otis and Isaac for taking part and coming third in Richmond Secondary School’s ’24 Challenge’. The children showed off their maths skills and competed against lots of other primary schools. The children behaved phenomenally and represented our schools with grace, humility and pride. Well done guys – you are a credit to us!
Acorns to Oaks
Our wonderful teaching assistant, Mr Stokes, is holding some fabulous activities over the Easter Holidays, be sure to book a place!
BAWB PTFA Car Adventure Quiz! Sunday 23rd June
We welcome families, friends and individuals to take part in an interactive driving challenge around Wensleydale. The aim is to secure points by answering questions correctly at a range of local places, while simultaneously attempting to cover the fewest miles possible. It is likely to take between 1-2 hours to complete. There will be a prize for the winning team. There will be a staggered start time between 10-11am, and it will begin and end at Askrigg VC Primary School.
Following the ‘Car Adventure Quiz’ refreshments will be available to purchase at Askrigg Primary, and there will be a range of activities for children to take part in such as: penalty shoot-out and a slip and slide.
To purchase tickets please email Mr Greenway via [email protected] with the number of people attending to ensure we have enough BBQ food for everyone.

May Half Term Activities
Eco-Warriors
Last week our Eco-Warriors had a very productive afternoon making eco-friendly seed bombs! The children tore up paper and soaked it in water to make a pulp, they then whizzed it up in the food processor! After that they mixed it with soil and seeds, to make homemade seed bombs for us to scatter!
But the warriors didn’t stop there! They also made some very pretty butterfly bird feeders – excellent team work guys!
Robins
Some messy hands in the Robins this week as they explored working with clay. Mrs Johnson says even though they have got lots of tools to use they prefer to use their hands!
The Robins have also been doing lots of shape work this week, rotating and matching shapes to make pictures.
Off for a drive in Mr. Gumpy’s motor car!
Owls
A busy week as we come to the end the half term.
Sports Day practised moved to skipping, kangaroo jumping and the beanbag race this week, we have been really impressed by the children encouraging each other and their resilience to have a go at the different races.
In science we have ended our plants unit by planting sunflower seeds to take home and observe as they (hopefully) grow into healthy flowers.
In art we reviewed our bird sculptures, discussing the process that brought us to this point from observing and sketching, adding texture to paper, to putting the parts together to create our own individual sculptures, what a beautiful flock of birds!
Swallows
After the all of the excitement of SATs, our Swallows hauled the instruments out this week for a fabulous music lesson!
Our wonderful Swallows completed their SATs this week, and as a treat for all of their hard work and dedication, they had a very special Friday disco complete with yummy traybakes from Mrs Park, sweeties and squash!
Kingfishers
Here are some photos of the Kingfishers carrying out the mummification process on some tomatoes.
Golden Eagles
The Golden Eagles have had a very creative end to the half term!
In PSHE, they created a piece of artwork representing their appreciation for someone special in their lives, which we have put together to create a wall of appreciation.
The creativity continued in art where the children, inspired by the work of Claes Oldenburg designed, sculpted and painted food for a picnic scene. Mr Scrafton had to try really hard not to eat the fantastic models.
In PE continued practising our tennis skills, finishing with short games to put them into practise.
Herons
Our fabulous Collective Worship Ambassadors led the assembly on Wednesday, with the theme of ‘Happiness’. They did a great job and showed us that money cannot buy you happiness.
Unfortunately, the weather stopped us from going outside for PE this week. We still managed to get plenty of exercise inside though. Here are a couple of action shots.
Merlins
In RE this week, the Merlins have been looking at Isaiah’s prophecy of the ‘Suffering Servant’ in the Old Testament. We explored why some Christians believe that Jesus was the Messiah described in Isaiah 53. We also discussed how this is not a shared belief among everyone; some Jewish people believes that the Messiah Isaiah prophesied is still to come.
The Merlins have had a mindful, relaxing and extremely creative art lesson. We are following our design and measurements to create our shadow puppets. We can’t wait to see the end results!
