Reading Deep-Dive

As part of our curriculum development work with our diocese, we had a full day on Wednesday at Bainbridge and West Burton exploring and evaluating our reading provision with two school improvement colleagues from the diocese. The day was called a ‘deep dive’ into reading provision and mirrored the approach that an Ofsted inspection would take, though perhaps even more thorough. We are delighted to report some extremely positive findings: that our Read, Write, Inc programme and our new reading approaches further up the school (especially ‘Power of Reading’) are having a hugely positive impact on our children. Our diocesan colleagues return next Wednesday to complete the deep dive at Askrigg.

Pen Licences

It has been wonderful over the last couple of weeks to be presented with some excellent examples of consistently good handwriting. To receive a pen licence, children have to demonstrate to the headteacher that:

  • they have joined handwriting that is of a consistent size and orientation.
  • Their handwriting is of an equally high standard across the curriculum – in all of their books.

I am delighted to present a pen licence to Isaac, Sam, Georgie, and Amelie. Well done all of you!

Bikeability

Wow! Our Y5 and Y6 children have thoroughly enjoyed their Bikeability sessions this week with Helen and team of Stage One Cycles. All children have taken part in the level 1 session and some have had their level 2 sessions (more to follow next week). The children have shown incredible resilience in some heavy rain showers but have learnt a hugely valuable life skill and had a thoroughly enjoyable time in doing so.
