Reading

One of the curriculum sessions during our training day on Monday was a very inspiring session led by Miss Collins about the launch of ‘The Power of Reading’

Here she tells us some more about this exciting approach to reading ….

One of the key areas in which we are helping children to catch up following the disruptions of this year is in reading. The ‘Power of Reading’, developed by the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education, is proven to improve reading outcomes for children by inspiring a love of books and developing children’s ability to respond confidently to what they read. On Monday, we delivered training to all our teachers and teaching assistants, as well as providing new, exciting books for children to read. The project will be rolled out from next week and I’m hoping your children will be very excited about this new, engaging approach to reading at KS2.

Parent Teacher consultations

The staff are looking forward to discussing your child/ren’s learning with you next week.

In preparation for these meetings, your child will be bringing home a mid-term report if they are in EYFS (Robins) or their standardised test data.

The admin office has now finished sending out appointment times and Teams meeting invites for those who chose a video call. If you have not received an appointment, please contact BAWBadmin@ email to let them know.

After School Clubs

We are delighted that the following after school clubs will be resuming on Monday 26 April:

  • Cycle Club – Askrigg (Golden Eagles and Merlins)
  • After School Sports – West Burton (Swallows and Skylarks)

As these clubs can only be offered to the pupils who are taught on site, we are exploring the possibility of additional clubs on other school sites and will advise as soon as we have anything further to report.

An online consent form will be sent to you to complete if you wish your child/ren to attend one of the clubs.  We must have consent before the children can take part.

Great North Air Ambulance Collection – Mon 19 April

A reminder that the GNAAS will be collecting from all three schools on the morning of Monday 19 April.  Please bring your bags to school that morning and leave outside. They need your old clothing and can also take toner/ink cartridges or unwanted mobile phones in any condition (in a separate bag).
