Golden Eagles and Skylarks Geography Trip

Published by Gemma Gurden on

Dear parents and carers,

This year, our LKS2 children have been learning about tectonic plates and geology as part of their geography lessons. We are thrilled to be able to offer them a geography field trip to see the impact of past tectonic plate movement on their local area.

On Thursday 26th May, the children will travel to Lower Winskill Farm where experts from the Yorkshire Dales National Park will be on hand to teach them about erratics, winskill stones and limestone pavements. The children will also have the opportunity to go fossil hunting.

They will have a packed lunch (provided by the school for those who have school dinners) at the farm, either outside or in the barn, depending on weather conditions.

In the afternoon, we will travel onto Dry Rigg Quarry to look at the different layers of rock, discover how they were created and find out about quarrying.

The trip will take place within the school day and will not affect home-school transport.

Please could all children wear warm, comfortable clothing suitable for walking in, including sensible footwear (there will be two 20-minute walks during the day). They will also need waterproofs, a rucksack and a water bottle.

Please apply suncream before they leave for school if the weather looks set to be warm (fingers crossed!).
