Robins Update 22.10

HALLOWEEN

The Robins have been embracing all things Halloween this week in school. We have explored Pumpkins, talking about what they look like, feel like etc and have enjoyed exploring the inside of a pumpkin too, scooping out the insides and discussing what the seeds are like too. The children have created observational drawings of pumpkins as well as painting their own pumpkins. The children used red and yellow paint to mix the right shade of orange for their pumpkins. We have had lots of witches, wizards, cats and bats wandering around the classroom in role and have seen some fabulous potion making in our outdoor area. Some of our reception children have worked really hard to write their own potions, thinking carefully about the sounds they can hear in each word. Well done Robins!

MATHS, 1,2,3

We have all loved learning more about numbers 1,2 and 3 this week. This includes introducing children to the number blocks 1,2 and 3 (which they love!). The children have been busy going on number hunts around school for objects in groups of 1,2 and 3 and using lots of different counting resources to make their own collections of 1,2 and 3. We have practised saying number rhymes to help us remember how to write these numbers (1= “down and stop”, 2= “like a swan, over his beak, down his neck, across his back”, 3= “one fat tummy, two fat tummies”) and have been writing these numbers in glitter trays. The reception children really enjoyed making their own collections of matching 1,2,3 number cards as part of a focussed maths activity. They  were asked to draw pictures of 1,2,3 things, eg. one car, two people, three pumpkins, for their friends to match and sort on our Maths table. Finally lots of fun has been had in our outdoor Maths activity- the children have been busy devising their own games using 3 beanbags, 3 balls, 3 hoops, 3 buckets, thinking about how they could record their scores.

HARVEST

We have spent some time practising some Harvest songs and talking about the importance of being thankful for our food at Harvest time, ahead of our Harvest church service on Friday. The children know that any food they bring to school, will be taken to church, and that it will be sent to a local Food Bank, where it will be available to help any people unable to buy their own food. 

We say a huge thank you to Mrs Cromey-Hawke who has been amazing helping out in Robins, during Mrs Johnston’s absence. She has been full of energy and shared her many fabulous ideas, so we have been very lucky that she has been able to be a part of the team. We enjoyed a lovely visit from Mrs Johnston on Monday- which has left the children and staff so excited to have her back after half term!! Mrs Johnston will be teaching Mondays and Tuesdays and Mrs Middleton will be teaching Wednesdays-Fridays.

Have a wonderful half term break and a huge thank you for your continued support. I think the children have been amazing this half term and definitely deserve a break and to enjoy some quality time with their families!
