A message from Ms Collins
Dear friends and families,
What an action-packed term we have had! Our children have taken part in murder mysteries, cross country events, archery, boccia and, of course, the annual Wensleydale Tournament of Song. All this in addition to lots of great learning in the classroom.
Our congratulations go to Tommy, Sylvi, Hollie F and Lily for their incredible achievements in cross country. They were among the top 8 children who qualified during an inter-school event at Richmond and went through to the next round. The course at Giggleswick was incredibly tough, with lots of mud and hills to negotiate. I have been told it was so muddy that many of the children who crossed the finish line had missing shoes! However, all four of them tackled the course with positivity and energy and did their schools proud. Tommy came 5th in his class, Sylvi came 8th, Lily came 13th and Hollie F came 16th. What amazing results from our small schools.
On Wednesday, all the children from Year 2 to Year 6 attended the Wensleydale Tournament of Song and performed in multiple classes. Thanks to the expert tuition of Sally Stone and Debbie Allenby, the BAWB Federation had some resounding success, achieving first place in five different categories and bringing home some wonderful trophies. However, I was most impressed by their wonderful behaviour during the day, all the teachers felt incredibly proud.
After Easter, we would like to share a full list of the solo achievements at the tournament. If your child took part, please let me know how he or she got on so I can make sure I include them.
Easter Service
We had a wonderful Easter Service this afternoon, and we are so proud of all of our pupils! What a lovely way to end the Spring Term.
Egg Decorating Competition!!
We had a very egg-citing day on Thursday, when some of our pupils brought in their decorated eggs to be judged! The kids didn’t yolk around at all, they must have been eggs-hausted hatching all of those plans to decorate such egg-cellent eggs!!

Bainbridge Christmas Lights
Open to everyone to raise funds for Bainbridge Christmas lights! The Easter trail will be available for the week leading up to the 30th – sheets to be handed in on the morning of 30th March in Bainbridge Village Hall. Contact Alice Richards for a sheet or she will be at the village park on Saturday 23rd March from 11am – 12pm.
Robins
Our Robins have been busy this week playing ‘One More Bingo’ making musical notes high to low, counting numbers to 100, mixing colours and sorting letters into capitals and not capitals! Phew, we bet they’re ready for the Easter holidays after using all that brain power!
Our hairdressers has been very popular all week! It has provided lots of opportunities to practise our cutting skills as well as some great story telling through taking on different roles.
The children have been talking about the importance of Easter for Christians and have worked hard to create some lovely Easter cards. There have been lots of different stages to complete them, involving finger painting, cutting, sticking and writing!
We are learning about the numbers 9 and 10 in Maths this week. The children have been playing lots of games where they have to work out different amounts that total 10.
Owls
What a busy week!
We have built our bridges in DT, there were some good techniques used to strengthen paper and help to support the bridge, however, none were strong enough to hold the load. We evaluated our designs and now know what we need to do to make them even better next time!
We have been practising our drama of ‘The Last Supper’ , some great acting and narration….let’s hope we don’t get too nervous in church!
Swallows & Kingfishers
We had an amazing DT lesson this week making our own torches! We designed the torches last week and had the opportunity this week to bring those designs to life. We were really impressed by the children’s resilience and perseverance as getting the switches to work was a very tricky task!
Golden Eagles
The Golden Eagles had a fantastic day at the Tournament of Song on Wednesday, not only was their behaviour impeccable, they got lots of wonderful comments from the adjudicator and even won a trophy!
On Tuesday, the Golden Eagles had their final swimming lesson with many of them overachieving the necessary swimming targets. Everyone in Golden Eagles has made amazing progress, improving water confidence and swimming ability.
In science, the Golden Eagles finished their unit on electricity by investigating which materials were conductors and which were insulators. The Golden Eagles extended their learning by wrapping conductive materials in rubber to show how rubber can be used in protective equipment like gloves.
Herons
On Monday, the Herons attended a Murder Mystery Day at the Wensleydale School. This was a STEM based day where students had the opportunity to learn about reactions of chemicals with heat; how fibre analysis can help solve crimes and how forensic scientists use fingerprints and other evidence to solve crimes. We had an amazing day!
