Weekly Newsflash! 6th January 2023
Welcome back and Happy New Year!
I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas and were able to spend precious time with family and friends. The Christmas break is always a very busy one but I also hope you managed to rest, and enjoy some quieter times. We are all delighted to be back to school and look forward to everything that the spring and summer terms have to offer. There is a lot to look forward to.
Assessment Results
Next week, pupils from Y1 upwards will receive an envelope with lots of information about last term’s tests, including the actual papers where these are in paper format (some tests were administered online and where this is the case, you will receive a detailed report instead of the paper). We hope that sharing this information gives you a greater understanding of the curriculum in maths, reading, spelling, and grammar, and an insight into where your child is working within their year group. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions on receipt of this information.
Homework – update
We have been exploring ways in which to address the issues you have raised about homework and are getting closer to a purposeful and manageable solution. We would like to invite parents to come to an information session on Wednesday 22nd February from 4:00pm until 5:00pm at Askrigg Primary School. Teaching staff will all be there to discuss our new homework strategy and we look forward to seeing many of you there.
Please note that the presentation and notes will be made available to any parents who are unable to attend this session.
Music Update
Our children continue to thoroughly enjoy and benefit from their orchestral sessions with Mr Price from the Local Authority’s music service. For the Y4, 5, and 6 children, some additional music can be found HERE – please scroll down to the resources section. The new one is ‘Annie’s Song’.
Calendar
Did you know you can synchronise our calendar with our school calendar? Click here to visit the calendar and click the link at the bottom of the page that says ‘subscribe to calendar’ – this will enable you to push events out to your personal calendars.
PTFA
The PTFA will be hosting the first meeting of the year at The Falls Cafe, Aysgarth on January 12th at 19:30, all welcome! The provisional agenda can be found here.
Owls
Owls have loved being back to school! Handwriting practice, problem solving and going out to experience the weather in Geography.
Swallows
The Swallows have been busy in PE this week and have been thinking of ways to link different movements such as rolls, balances and jumps, whilst demonstrating their abilities as champion gymnasts with their pointed fingers and toes. They also finished off a Maths lesson with a game of “1,2,3,5”. What is the highest number that a group of 5 children could make?
Golden Eagles
The Golden Eagles have been working on their team skills in PE. We worked as a team to ‘cross the river’ without touching the floor with limited resources.
Merlins
The Merlins enjoyed their first science lesson on electricity.
Awards…
…will resume next week.
