Remembrance Day

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

Today, each school spent time remembering all those who have fought, suffered, and lost during war.

At Bainbridge, Robins gathered round the tree outside the front of Bainbridge School. Although they are the very youngest children in our federation, they listened very carefully as we introduced the service and then stood silently in a circle holding hands as we remembered the brave soldiers who fought for our country. They were a real credit to their teachers and families.

The Owls visited the cemetery in Bainbridge with members of the parish council. They observed the two minutes’ silence and listened to all the names of our local fallen soldiers read out. Cllr Peacock then read ‘In Flanders Fields’.

At Askrigg, Golden Eagles and Merlins went to St. Oswald’s Church where Mr Greenway led a discussion about the meaning of remembrance day. The children took part in the two minutes’ silence.

At West Burton, Swallows and Kingfishers visited the memorial on the green where they talked about all the soldiers we honour and remember on this day. The also observed the silence at 11:00am.
