Ofsted

This week we welcomed three Ofsted inspectors into our schools to carry out a full inspection of all three schools simultaneously. This is really positive as it means we now don’t have three separate inspection cycles for each individual school.

Our staff and children were fantastic and enjoyed having the opportunity to demonstrate all our strengths, and also to show that we know where our own areas for development are. The children spoke confidently and courageously about our schools, their learning, and how safe they feel – we were so very proud of them!

The outcome of the inspection must remain confidential until the report comes back (in a few weeks) but we are all feeling happy and glad that we have had the opportunity to showcase our wonderful schools. Thank you for all of your comments on Parent View – these were overwhelmingly positive and the lead inspector took time to read some of them during feedback last night. A real testament to our BAWB community.

Parent-Teacher Consultations

Don’t forget that our parent-teacher consultations are taking place next week and our teachers are looking forward to having the opportunity to talk to you. As usual we are sharing your child’s latest assessment data before the meeting. Apologies: this would have come to you earlier this week had we not been busy hosting Ofsted. Either today or early next week you will be in receipt of this information and we hope you find it a useful starting point for your discussions.

Year 3 & Year 4 Swimming Lessons

Robins

What a busy week in Robins!

The children have definitely made the most of the sunny weather and a lot of time has been enjoyed making camp fires, dens and ‘hot chocolate’ in our outdoor area.

The tadpoles continue to grow and the children have made some fabulous observational paintings.

In RE we have been learning about Ramadan and Eid. The children have looked at images of Mosques and created their own Mosque pictures. We discussed the shapes of different parts of the buildings and the children added their own details too.  We’ve made good use of Easter egg boxes and the children have LOVED making and weighing their own ‘Easter eggs’ to give to friends in our Home corner, using the play dough.

Swallows

Prayer for King Charles

Earlier this term we were invited by the Dean of Ripon Cathedral to write prayers for King Charles’s coronation. This week we received a delightful letter from the dean informing us that whilst all of the prayers we submitted will be available to view in Ripon Cathedral, Olivia’s prayer will form part of a special display of children’s prayers for King Charles. These can be viewed in Ripon Cathedral from Friday 28th April.

Lead Mining in the Yorkshire Dales

This term’s history topic is lead mining in the Yorkshire Dales. As part of the introduction to the topic we examined pieces of lead ore, kindly loaned to us by the Dales Countryside Museum.  As part of the topic we will visit the museum to experience their replica lead mine and examine the tools used by Yorkshire miners (more details to follow).

Moth and Butterfly Attractors

As part of our English unit, based on the book Moth by Isabel Thomas, the Swallows identified instruction language in a piece of writing and then followed the instructions to make a butterfly and moth feeder, which have been hung in the playground.

Seeds and Bulbs The Swallows got messy in science, examining daffodil bulbs and pea plants to learn the difference between seeds and bulbs. The learning continued in the classroom when the children placed runner and broad beans in jam jars in order to observe how plants grow from seeds.
