Reading Deep Dive

Colleagues from the Diocesan School Improvement team visited Askrigg on Wednesday to complete their deep dive into reading across our federation. It has been heartening to hear validation of the hugely positive impact of Read, Write, Inc. We have also talked through our new ‘Power of Reading’ approach and how to adapt it to provide further challenge for pupils in their reading and more opportunities for extended writing. This ‘deep-dive’ has mirrored the structure of an Ofsted inspection and we feel privileged to have had such positive and constructive feedback on which to further build our reading

Loving Earth Project

We are delighted to be taking part in the ‘Loving Earth’ Project which celebrates people, places, creatures, and other things that we love but which are threatened by growing environmental breakdown (click here for more info). It offers a way to help people engage creatively and constructively with the issues, without being overwhelmed. It also offers a way to share initiatives and your reasons for taking them with a very diverse audience.

Judith Bromley has invited us to contribute to the display of panels in the Quaker Meeting House in Bainbridge in July, before the whole exhibition is then taken to Glasgow during the COP 26 international Conference about climate change.

In order to make our panels, we are appealing to parents, family and community members to help us collect:

  • Squares of (preferably white) material, 36 – 40 cm2. If they could be pre-hemmed that would even better!
  • Off cuts of various fabrics for the children to create their designs with.

If you are able to help with this, please send your offerings into school marked for the attention of Mrs Alderson. Many thanks in anticipation.

ParentPay

Please can you keep an eye on your ParentPay accounts and organise regular payments to keep the accounts as low as possible. If there are any problems or discrepancies, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Gurden anytime.
