Maths – what a lot of counting!

Published by Gemma Gurden on

Maths this week has been exploring multiplication; counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and making equal groups.

The children made groups of objects then explained and recorded how many groups, of how many objects and how many altogether.

Myles told me there were “3 groups of 2 carriages or 3 groups of 8 wheels” and told me how many altogether. Joey knew that three lots of 6 was 18 because “double 6 is 12, and I counted on another 6.” It’s trickier than you think remembering which number to record where! The owls were very good at remembering to count in 2s, 5s and 10s wherever they could. Now we’re ready for arrays!
